College Bands

College Application and Audition Checklist

Playing your instrument or spinning a flag does not have to stop with graduation. In fact, playing your instrument in college is the best way to get acclimated to a large university, such as UK or EKU. In addition to making friends and learning your way around campus, you get behind the scenes access to amazing sporting events, free admission to games when you play in the band, and most importantly – you keep getting better on your instrument.

You do not have to major in music to play in college band – in fact, most of the band majors in something else! For information about scholarships and requirements to participate in university bands, please go to the University Bands’ website of your choice. Don’t forget to apply to the college you want to attend.

Armed Forces

Serving as a musician in our Nation’s Armed Services is an honor and offers the musician opportunities to see the world and be a part of history. Most band members are graduates of prestigious collegiate music programs. If interested, contact your local recruiter, who will get you more information.

Community Bands

Community bands bring together musicians from all walks of life who want to continue making music. Some require a formal audition, others not. Most are always looking for new members, and would love to have you. In some cases, you may be able to perform in the community band while you are still in high school (during the summer before marching band)
