For Friday, send me a 10 minute video demonstrating all the skills on the conducting rubric below. OR, email me a time between 1 and 3pm to Zoom so we can record you 1 on 1. I will post a sample video tonight. (10pm-ish?)

Tuesday and Wednesday’s Assignments

Drum Major and Section Leader Candidates:

Please take the pre-test so that we can set a baseline of where you are coming into the training. After taking the pre test, watch and participate with the video from Bobby Lambert, Director of Bands at Wnado HS in South Carolina on behalf of Music For All and Bands of America. After you watch the video, take the Formative Test. Please do this by Tuesday Night at Midnight. We will get together via Zoom to discuss the video and the test results on Wednesday.

Welcome Calvin Schmieg – RDC Band Director

Please welcome our newest addition to the Clark County Band Family – Mr. Calvin Schmieg, who will assume the band director role at Robert D. Campbell Jr. High, a position left vacant by the retirement of longtime educator Trish Torline.

Calvin Schmieg has recently completed his eleventh year of teaching. He comes to us from the Academies of Bryan Station in Lexington, KY where he was the Associate Band Director.

Prior to Bryan Station, Mr. Schmieg was the Band Director at Montgomery Co. HS. His middle and high school bands consistently received Distinguished Ratings at district assessment. Mr. Schmieg holds a Degree in Music Education from Morehead State University as well as a Master of Music Degree with emphasis in Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University and remains active as a musician by performing with the praise band at Calvary Christian Church

Mr. Schmieg lives in Winchester with his wife Chelsea and children Sophie and Brody; he is beyond excited to be teaching in his home community!
